The map image on this page reflects the prior day’s train and then van ride from Aquas Calientes to Cusco.
After a great breakfast buffet at our hotel, I grabbed a few pictures at the hotel entrance which show the Inca stone work of the lower layers along with the Spanish Catholic church built on top of the Incan temple. Then off we went for a relatively short flight over the Andes heading back to Lima.
I ended up with a very early flight the next morning so had booked a room at the airport in the Costa Del Sol Hotel to cleanup, get some sleep before I headed back home the next morning (7:04 am flight). I had a nice dinner in the hotel with the others in our travel group who all had flights that same evening so didn’t need to stay overnight.
Our final day in Peru went without incident, closing out one more major trip for myself.
While I had inconvenient health challenges, it was still an amazing trip. The people were all great, the food was wonderful, the scenery not to be missed, all physical challenges completed and many more pictures and memories to add to my travel collection.
For those who are not inclined to hike over 15000+ foot passes, there are still many options to visit Cusco, the Inca ruins in the area and then Machu Picchu, some of them being quite luxurious. So if you get a chance, I highly recommend this area for a visit.
